Procurement of Elite Breeding Stock

Purebred Sire Intake Metrics & Physical Baseline

Elite Breeding Bulls ( Head): Successfully selected and purchased six purebred sires with proven parent pedigree tracks optimized for arid Sahelian zones.

  • Breed Selection: Two (2) White Fulani (Bunaji) sires selected for dual-purpose milk/meat framework optimization; two (2) Sokoto Gudali sires chosen for rapid carcass weight conversion; and two (2) specialized crossbred sires selected for intensive high-motility semen production profiles.
  • Physical Standards: Minimum weight at intake capped at , passing strict veterinary breeding soundness evaluations (BSE) including scrotal circumference checks (minimum ) and behavioral libido scoring.

Dairy Foundation Stock Allocation

  • High-Yield Dairy Heifers ( Head): Procurement of four young, unbred dairy heifers displaying superior genetic conformation indicators for high-volume lactation. These animals were audited for pelvic capacity, maternal milk production lineage indexes (minimum ancestral history of 15 liters/day), and structural teat symmetry.

Nucleus Herd Settlement & Management Protocols

  • Isolation & Quarantine Phase: Executed a mandatory 45-day biosecurity quarantine protocol upon arrival at the breeding center. Animals underwent rigorous diagnostic screening for Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) before integration.
  • Nutritional & Welfare Routines: Established a customized total mixed ration (TMR) feeding profile combining localized high-protein legume hays, sorghum silage, and specialized vitamin-mineral blocks to maximize semen concentration outputs and preserve the genetic nucleus.

At BOLMA ensure the development and efficient use of grazing reserves and resources while minimizing conflicts between farmers and herders through efficient and effective feed and fodders programmes.
