3,000-Cow AI Drive & Goat Multiplication

Are you a cooperative head, a commercial cattle investor, or an agricultural extension agent looking to onboard animals into the breed drive or goat multiplication program? Use our secure portal to register your interest.

Genetic & Production Optimization Services

The Directorate of Livestock Production and Breed Improvement is tasked with driving the genetic modernization of Borno State’s livestock population. By shifting away from subsistence pastoralism, this pillar deploys modern reproductive technologies to maximize milk volumes, beef carcass weights, and reproductive efficiency rapidly scaling up rural livelihoods and food security.

Artificial Insemination (AI) Services

Delivery of high-conception artificial insemination procedures directly to local herds, substituting low-yield communal bulls with elite, tested genetics.

  • Target Breeds: Infusing local foundation stock (White Fulani/Bunaji, Sokoto Gudali) with premium dairy and beef genetics (such as improved Holstein Friesian crosses and superior indigenous bloodlines).

  • Operational Scope: Includes comprehensive heat detection syncing, hormonal synchronization protocols for smallholder cooperatives, and structural pregnancy diagnosis schedules via manual or ultrasound routing.

High-Merit Genetic Stock Multiplication

Managing the state’s foundation nucleus breeding herd to produce and distribute elite, locally acclimated breeding stock.

  • Target Breeds: Management and deployment of high-genetic-merit bulls, dairy heifers, and improved Boer Goats for community-based multiplication and distribution programs.

Goat Breed Improvement Programme

A specialized small ruminant multiplication initiative designed to rapidly scale up meat and milk yields for smallholder livestock farmers.

  • Target Metrics: The procurement and quarantine management of improved Boer Goats. This program operates via a community-based multiplication model, where superior genetic lines are distributed to selected farmers and cooperatives to upgrade local goat populations through crossbreeding.
Technical Support, Training & Advisory Services

Technical capacity development for field personnel and livestock owners to ensure high calf survival rates, strict animal welfare, and modern herd management.

  • Target Metrics: Continuous on-site training for certified AI technicians, specialized livestock extension officers, and cooperative managers on bull management, semen processing, liquid nitrogen cold-chain protocols, and performance data entry.
By shifting away from subsistence pastoralism, this pillar deploys modern reproductive technologies and community multiplication frameworks to maximize milk volumes, beef carcass weights, and small ruminant

Infrastructure Core: The Strategic Breeding Centre

Located at the Mohamet Lawan College of Agriculture, Maiduguri, BOLMA’s state-of-the-art Breed Improvement Centre serves as the technical engine room for regional livestock genetics.

1. Elite Bull & Caprine Management
Stage 1

Housing and intensive nutritional management of high genetic merit breeding bulls, dairy heifers, and premium Boer goats within strict animal welfare guidelines.

2. Semen Extraction & Processing
Stage 2

Routine, sanitary semen collection and laboratory processing. Evaluated semen is packaged, extended, and preserved inside liquid nitrogen storage tanks.

3. Data Registration & Dispatch
Stage 3

Every processed semen batch is barcoded and logged into the Smart Livestock Database. Doses are dispatched via cold-chain infrastructure to mobile field units across active LGAs.

Active Campaign

3,000-Cow AI Drive & Goat Multiplication

The state government has explicitly authorized and funded the immediate optimization of 3,000 cows alongside the community rollout of the Boer goat crossbreeding lines. These interventions are provided free of charge to registered local livestock farmers and cooperative unions.

How to Access These Services:

For cooperative leads, extension officers, and livestock breeders wishing to onboard their herds into the ongoing genetic improvement registry, the data workflow operates through a 4-step sequence:

1. Complete the Digital Farmer Profiling and Census form

2. Herd Pre-Validation Audit

A BOLMA veterinary team conducts an on-site evaluation of your livestock to audit nutrition levels, reproductive history, and general biosecurity readiness.

Insemination & Breed Multiplication
Approved cattle undergo structured heat detection protocols for AI. Selected goat cooperatives receive elite Boer goat components for community-based crossbreeding.

4. Pregnancy Diagnosis & Performance Logging

Mobile teams execute systematic pregnancy diagnoses and performance recording.

At BOLMA ensure the development and efficient use of grazing reserves and resources while minimizing conflicts between farmers and herders through efficient and effective feed and fodders programmes.
